Question: Today i had a transvaginal ultrasound as suggested by my doc.The probe used was not covered with condom and many other ladies were there who got the test done.I am not sure whether the doctor stetilized the probe or not.In a bit of hurry i did not questioned her.i want to ask whether it may transmit hiv to me if anybody was infected..Kindly guide me regarding this.I am really disturbed.

Brief Answer:
The risk is very unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

The risk of transmission of HIV through the way you had mentioned is very unlikely as the survival of HIV virus outside the human body in an open environment is very difficult and it will die within few minutes only so be relaxed, forget about the episode and move ahead in life happily.

Thank You

Thanks sir..Actuallly before my turn tvs scan of one lady was done.the doctor has not covered the probe. She just wiped with tissue and used the same probe for me after applying lubricating gel.So i got worried that the virus might have survived in gel.I hv read that hiv transmits from syringes also..Just want to know that how it lives alive in syringes.

Brief Answer:
It is not possible.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

The risk seems to be very unlikely through this way because I have also not seen any such case so just calm down, forget about the same and move on in life. For any further query get back to me again.
