What Does The Following Ultrasound Report Indicate?
Question: Hello Doctor,
My wife is pregnant from Last Month. We had visitied a Gynec. and she told that this week we will have the 8 wks completed and advised us for sonography. We had done it and report had been attached. The report says that the development is of 5 wks and 6 Days. Now the Doctor had informed us that there are 2 reasons for it 1. Thyroid (its normal in blood test) 2. Misabortion. with this we are now worried. If I calculate the exact month from intercourse it comes correct 5wks and 6 days as mention in report. Please advise.
Report says:
Uterus is gRAVID
Intrauterine Gestational sac is seen : 1.06cm
yolk sac is not seen
fetal pole is not seen
Cardiac activity is not seen
Both Ovaries appear Normal
Internal OS is closed
Impression: Sign of early pregnancyof 5W 6D
Adv. follow up scan after 7 to 10 days for FP and FHR
LMP:28.10.2016, GA by USG: 5W 6D, MA: 8W 3D, EDD by USG 22.08.2017, EDD: 04.08.2016

Yes it can be a missed abortion or a very early but live pregnancy and the difference between the two can be done on base of repeat ultrasound only after 10 days.
As per your calculations it is always calculated from the day of last period and not from the day of conception.
So just keep taking progesterone and HCG injections as advised and let's hope for the best
