What Does The Following Urinalysis Suggest?
I got my urine tested few days back since my wife was detected with UTI. Urine routine report received as below,
pus cells - 2 to 3
RBC 0-1
Protein '+'
Blood - Trace
rest everything normal.
Thinking that me too would have got some infection, got Culture and sensitivity test done. the result is as below,
Sample is sterile after 48 hours of Aerobic incubation at 37 degree celsius. Hence sensitivity test results cancelled.
Please advice.

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
You don't have any urinary tract infection as urine for pus cell is just 2-3/hpf. In urinary tract infection un-centrifuged urine should show more than 3 pus cells/hpf and if the number of pus cells in centrifuged mid-stream urine in men is > 5 /hpf, it is again abnormal. The reports as I see is normal. Also your urine culture is sterile after 48 hours of aerobic incubation at 37 degree celsius.
Do you have any dysuria (burning sensation during micturition), increased frequency of urination,fever or back pain?
Mild proteinuria (protein+) and trace blood,RBC 0-1/hpf is probably due to non-infective causes (commonest is renal stone). I would advise you to undergo a repeat urinalysis.

Urine abnormality and further evaluation

Hi,
You urine report does not show any crystal (calcium oxalate or uric acid ). However serum uric acid is not very high to cause any uric acid nephropathy.
There are many causes of presence of protein in urine. If repeat urine test show persistent abnormality,go for 24 hours urinary protein,BUN & serum creatinine estimations and Ultrasonography of Abdomen particularly KUB (kidney,ureter & bladder) region.

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
First Morning Specimen of urine is the specimen of choice for urinalysis and microscopic analysis, since the urine is generally more concentrated (due to the length of time the urine is allowed to remain in the bladder) and, therefore, contains relatively higher levels of cellular elements and analytes such as protein, if present.
In collecting urine for microscopic examination, it is important to avoid contamination with bacteria, squamous cells and leucocytes.
In both sexes at least 200 ml should be passed before collecting a midstream urine specimen without interrupting the flow of urine.
Hence the ideal specimen is mid-stream first morning sample of urine.
