What Does The Following Urine Routine Report Suggest?
Question: I got my urine tested few days back since my wife was detected with UTI. Urine routine report received as below,
pus cells - 2 to 3
RBC 0-1
Protein '+'
Blood - Trace
rest everything normal.
Thinking that me too would have got some infection, got Culture and sensitivity test done. the result is as below,
Sample is sterile after 48 hours of Aerobic incubation at 37 degree celsius. Hence sensitivity test results cancelled.
Please advice.

Thank You Doctor. But why does the report has Trace of blood and protein as '+'? please clarify
Brief Answer:
Repeat urine test after 2 weeks.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Protein in urine can be seen in normal conditions also. But there are certain diseases that can cause protein in urine. I recommend a repeat urine test after 2 weeks.
But blood in urine is not normal unless the test was done during her periods. If the test was not done during her periods then it could be either stones on kidney or some kidney problems.
Kindly let me know whether her urine test was done during her periods or not.
Regards.

Thank You sir. Also i got my serum uric acid tested. the report is 7.4 mg/dl. Could this also be a cause? Are there chances of getting above kind of reports even without a renal stone? If it is a case of renal stone, can that be cured forever? Please advice
Brief Answer:
It could be due to kidney diseases if not stones.
Detailed Answer:
HI
Uric acid level is slightly elevated. ( Normal is less than 7 ) This increased uric acid levels increases the risk of Kidney stones. But just elevated Uric acid will not cause Protein or blood in urine.
As said earlier Protein in urine can be seen normally also but blood in urine is not normal.
It is seen either in Urine Infection ( which is not there in your wife ) , kidney stones or some kidney diseases like Glomerulonephritis.
But you didn't answered my question whether her urine test was done during her periods or not?
Yes kidney stones can be cured . For permanent cure the cause of kidney stones has to be found and treated .
