default
Posted on Sat, 4 Oct 2014
Question: I have blood present when or more accurately after having a bowel movement. It is blood mixed with mucus and seems to be alone after the bowel movement not covering the stool or sometimes without stool occuring. It doesn't match the symptoms of colon cancer (tarry stools, loss of weight, pencil thin stools, etc. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics > Colonoscopy > CT Scan

Detailed Answer:
HI.
Noted the history.
To recapitulate: 62 years, female patient - blood with mucus after the bowel movement-

Considering you age of 62 years I would advise the following:
First of all get a course of an antibiotic and metronidazole, probiotics and see the result. If the problem persists , you have to go for colonoscopy and biopsy if necessary.

It is also wise to undergo CT scan of the whole abdomen.

The classical symptoms of any disease do not apply to everyone and every case is always different. It is better to take extra care for an early diagnosis and be ready for whatever diagnosis is in the offing.
