default
Posted on Thu, 4 Jun 2015
Question: I took a urinary tract infection test and riot showed positive for leukocyte so and negative for nitrites. I need to go to the bathroom all the time. I recently had Botox injections in my bladder. I cannot seem to get through to my urologist. I was fine after my recheck.

Brief Answer:
Overactive bladder , UTI should be excluded by lab testing

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your history, its more likely to be OAB ( Over active Bladder ). Detrusor injections of botox are used in OAB patients who don't have a good / adequate response to anticholinergic medication. Behavioral modifications including bladder training, diet routines, fluid restriction, pelvic floor exercises at night with pharmacological therapy including muscarinic blockers like tolterodine , oxybutynin and bet 3 agonists like Mirabegron are used as part of initial treatment. UTI should be ruled out by doing a repeat urinalysis and subsequent Culture sensitivity testing via an authentic lab and if no infection is detected to control the OAB then other measures should be considered such as sacral nerve neuro modulation , bladder augmentation surgery or Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation which is a minimally invasive procedure for those who cant tolerate invasive surgery.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
