What Does "thickening Of The Bladder" Mean?
Question: Hi. My father was diagnosed as having thickening of the bladder. What does this mean? Is it bladder cancer? How is it treated? What is the typical prognosis?
Brief Answer:
Not always due to cancer
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
There are few causes of bladder thickening.
1. Recurrent bladder infection.
2. Parasite infestation of bladder.
3. Age related.
4.Early sign of cancer.
Bladder thickening means the inner layer of bladder is rough and thick.
It need not be cancer always, other causes are mentioned above.
Treatment and prognosis depends on the cause of thickening.
Can I ask what problems he is having presently.?

My father had blood in his urine, once. He also has the urge to urinate quite frequently.
He had the following tests performed: Cystourethroscopy, Bulbar urethra stricture dilation and fulgation of prostatic papillary urotheial lesion.
The test results noted the following: a suspicious prostatic urotheial lesion, the full lesion and the surrounding neovascularity was carefully fulgated, no evidence of upper urinary tract urologic pathology, thickening of the bladder wall was noted without evidence of obvious mass.
I received the report after I submitted my question. Upon review of the results, it appears to me that there is no reason to be terribly concerned, right now. However, follow up tests are probably indicate to ensure that no masses in the bladder form.
I would like to get your feedback. Thank you so much. Joe

Brief Answer:
It's due to Back pressure
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
As per the report Stricture of Bulbar urethra is noticed. It means there is obstruction to the passage of urine may be partial. Due to long term obstruction there will be increased back pressure on bladder that might have caused Bladder thickening.
But in view of suspicious prostatic urothelial lesion a follow up should be done probably a repeat cystoscopy every 6 months.
Any clarification feel free to ask.
Happy to answer.
Regards.
