What Does "thickening Of The Trabeculations In The Distal Anterior Stomach" Mean?
anterior stomach Hi I just am getting over having part of my pancreas removed due to a slightly malignant neuroendrocrine tumor. The dr. ordered a CT scan because I was having pain eating. What can cause this thickening of the stomach. Everything I looked up was cancer I'm sure it has to be something else because he didn't seem concerned. I just was wondering what caused it.
there are some nonmalignant reasons also
Detailed Answer
Hi,
Thickening of trabeculations alone does not indicate cancer. it is the disturbance in pattern of trabeculae along with thickening that raises question. post surgical edema can also cause thickening of wall/trabeculations. CT scan can't differentiate between tumor or edema. edema may be due to inflammation also.
see, if the surgery for neuroendocrine tumor was adequate, u need not to worry. usually surgery is curative and chances of recurrence is low. recurrence usually occurs in the form of mass lesion, not as thickening in stomach. many points are important here including the time duration between surgery and CT scan. endoscopy will also be helpful. there are few other tests also to rule out recurrence, to be decided by clinical findings.
