Uncinate process is a structure present near the head of the pancreas.
Pancreas is a fleshy organ present beneath the stomach and loops of small intestine.
Pancreas has four parts - head,neck ,body and tail.
Uncinate process is a structure lying close to head.
A 6 cm mass is detected on CT scan along the uncinate process.
The management of this mass depends on the nature of the mass- whether it is cystic or solid.
Cystic mass can be a cyst or a neoplasm.
Solid lesions are usually neoplastic.
Further investigations like CT guided aspiration is required to know the character of the lesion - benign or malignant.
In case the lesion is a cyst or a benign lesion, simple removal of the lesion will suffice.
If the lesion turns out to be malignant, excision of mass with clear margins is required.
The location of the mass i.e. in the head region goes in favor of malignancy since malignant lesions are common in head region of pancreas.

If the turns out to be malignant, surgery is required to remove the tumor.
The extent of surgery depends on the extent of the tumor.
If the surgical excision of the tumor is not feasible, chemotherapy may have to be started.
The five year survival rate and prognosis of the tumor depends on the histological type, grading and staging of the tumor.
However, the overall prognosis of pancreatic cancers is not very good.
