What Does This CT Scan Report Indicate?
I had a CT scan of Neck of Soft Tissue with Contrast and they said everything looks normal. But I can able to feel kind of a mass in the area painted red. Just wondering, if they said CT scan of neck soft tissue is normal, does this covered this area?
Red mass is in shoulder region and visualised on neck CT scan images
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. In CT scan the structures of neck are assessed well. The neck is the area which connects the head to the thorax. Therefore it includes the structures from level of C1 vertebra to C7 vertebra.
2. The are in red is the middle third of the left clavicular fossa. This is not part of neck and is part of shoulder and included in neck CT scan.
3. In CT scan report there is mention of bony and soft tissue structures. If they have told that the soft structures are normal then they mean muscles, salivary glands, thyroid gland, nasopharyngeal and laryngeal area are normal. Lymph nodes in neck are also normal.
4. I would like to reconfirm your CT scan report if you might upload a scanned copy of it.
5. If the report is clearly normal and there is a mass which you are able to feel then I suggest a ultrasound scan of the clavicular fossa on left side after clinical examination. Sometimes muscles or fat under the skin might appear mass like in some positions causing fullness in the clavicular region. Your query is genuine and requires complete evaluation if you feel there is a lump under the clavicle on left side.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back should you have any doubts.

The test ordered was "CT scan of Neck Soft Tissue with Contrast" . This should include the region mentioned correct? Should Neck CT include the red mass region even though it is soft tissue or any other?
Red mass will be seen
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
The mass in red will be covered in lower neck level section. Therefore it will be seen on CT scan neck
