What Does This CT Scan Report Indicate?
I recently had a ct Scan done in the ER to rule out heart attack , Stroke and Ruptured Disc. Thankfully none of those things were the case and it was a muscle spasm. What does concern me is the results I just read. I am 51 year old female with Cerebral Palsy. I had a right thalamus stroke in 2013, I have Diabetes.
This is the part of the report that has me concerned
" There is moderate supratentorial volume loss and periventricular and subcortical chronic microvascular changes. Again note is made of prominent basal ganglia calcifications
Age related changes.

Hi,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist, here to answer your query.
The statement- " There is moderate supratentorial volume loss and periventricular and subcortical chronic microvascular changes. Again note is made of prominent basal ganglia calcifications"- mentions of all the changes that are mostly age related.
Supratentorial volume loss is due to 'age related atrophy' and 'periventricular and subcortical chronic microvascular changes' are again probably age related which may be exacerbated in Diabetics.
The best you should do is Strict Diabetes control and a combination of aspirin with statin, to prevent future stroke risk.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

No.Its not a cause of worry. This is mostly of no significance at your age.Continue Plavix and crestor as that will be preventive for future stroke.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.
