What Does This MRI Report Indicate?
Question: Hello Dr. A recent MRI disclosed that I have a meniscus tear on the medial and lateral side of my left knee along with large varicose veins behind the knee and advanced arthritis. Surgery has been recommended for repair of the meniscus. My question is : Which should I have done first the veins or the meniscus or does it not make any difference which is first. My age is 82. Thank you very much for your opinion. Sincerely, XXXX
Brief Answer:
There is no difference
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think there is no difference whether you do meniscus or varicose. I would suggest you to do meniscus first as it is very minor procedure and you can walk after one day of the surgery.
Varicose vein surgery may need some bed rest. It may possible that you might not need varicose surgery if your pain is completely cured with menisectomy.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
