Question: 52/Female(My mother). Suffering from fronto-temporal dementia (MRI showing mild cortical loss on fronto-temporal lobe) with symptoms including memory loss (especially short term, unable to recall directions), visual hallucination, restlessness, stool incontinence.
This started long back with symptoms of migraine and Doctors were unable to find any cause for the same. Visual symptoms started back in 2014.
Wanted to know about any promising treatment for this condition. Patient is relatively young and there is no family history even. Kindly let us know if this condition can be treated.

Brief Answer:
She is on correct treatment plan.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your mother's clinical details. The diagnosis of fronto-temporal dementia (FTD) seems to be correct. PET CT brain and detailed neuro-psychological assessment may be done to further confirm the diagnosis.

The disease is progressive as it is a degenerative disease, and there is no cure for this disease. Even the disease progression can not be stopped, however, the worsening may be slowed down with treatment.

She is on correct medicines for dementia- memantine and rivastigmine. Psychological symptoms are also being well treated.

She should undergo a detailed neuro-psychological assessment and counselling sessions may be useful.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
