What Does This MRI Report Indicate?
Question: I need some clarification on my MRI report results on my lower back so I'm going to go ahead and read the findings to you:
-Reactive endplate disease degenerative noted inferior endplate L4 in particular
-Bone marrow signal intensity is diffusely low and Signal intensity on the t1-weighted images nonspecific
-From L4 through S1 degenerative disc/osteophyte complexes with biforaminal extension noted. Partially effacing the anterior inferior neural foraminal fat at L4/L5. Superimposed central to right paracentral protrusion at L4/L5 distorts the overlying ventral margin of the thecal sac but there is no significant Central canal stenosis.
Impression:
Mild degenerative spondylosis L4/S1 as above -Bone marrow signal intensity is heterogeneous considered nonspecific correlate clinically.
Please help me to understand these reading. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Nothing serious at present
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your Question and report and understand your concern.
The mri is showing changes in vertebrae which is age related degeneration.
Mild disc bulge at a level is also not compressing any nerve roots.
Osteophytes are bony projection from vertebral body and are of no concern at present.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Thank you for the reply. It is helpful. Currently I have been prescribed Gabapentin and Baclofen. I am unsure of the Gabapentin. I've never taken nerve meds before. What are the common side effects and treatment for my back issues I have had constant pain especially when sitting or bending for weeks now. I want to know the best way to heal this.
Brief Answer:
Follow instructions and investigation
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Physiotherapy for back muscles strengthening and preventive steps are of utmost importance.
Pain modulator drugs like pregabalin or amitriptyline or gabapentin can be used to decrease the intensity of neuropathic pain.
Pain killers and muscle relaxant can be used for few weeks to relief the pain symptoms.
Regular physiotherapy will delay the progression and need for surgery.
