What Does This MRI Report Of Brain Indicate?
Question: hello Doctor K
I asked you a question a few months ago about
your answer was
(Disappearance of nodular enhancement means improvement in the status of lesions.
Nodular enhancement is among one of the types of enhancement patterns in MRI or CT scan.
Enhancement of lesions are due to loss of blood-brain barrier in variety of conditions like inflammation, infection, tumour etc.
Loss of enhancement suggests appearance of blood-brain barrier and it can be taken as a positive sign. However,it should be correlated clinically. )
now we have done another mri on my wifes brain tumor. her tumor is a OG*****. the mri impression states that although the size of the tumor is unchanged the cyst that remove present have all disappeared. what does this mean

Hello XXXXXXX
Recent MRI doesn't indicate any decrease in size of mass. However there is disappearance of small cyst noted earlier postero-superior to mass.
Other lesions like white matter hyperintensities are stable. You need regular follow up MRI to detect progression of lesions so that proper intervention can be done in time.

im not sure I understand. looks like you are quoting what is on the mri. my question is --- isn't it a positive with the disappearance of the cyst. cysts do not disappear for no reason do they? on the last mri before this one -- it was noted a disappearance of noduler enhancement. the current mri shows disappearance of cyst. what could have caused this disappearance.would it indicated that the current treatment is working to some degree
thank you
thank you

Hello XXXXXXX
Yes,it can be interpreted that treatment is working to some extent, but its size is not decreasing. It is relieving that its size doesn't increase. You should continue the treatment you are getting and hope for decreased size in next MRI.

Hello XXXXXXXX
As we discussed earlier, latest report is better as compared to previous ones. It can be interpreted that alternative methods are working. It is important to know the details of alternative methods and its scientific acceptance.
As we know that aggressiveness of tumour varies.
Oligodendroglioma is not a very aggressive tumour. Its size may be same for long time and it is slow growing. In majority of the cases, it only require watchful observation, follow up and symptomatic treatment.
