Brief Answer:
Hello dear. It means they are pathologic

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Any enlarged node which shows increased metabolic activity in petct is taken as pathologic node. It means that it is enlarged either due to some infection or some tumor. This can be ascertained by a biopsy. Moreover tumor markers can be ordered to come to a definite diagnosis.
Thanks and regards

Hi Dr. Sundriyal,

My father has been diagnosed of gall bladder cancer and underwent extended cholecystectomy. We are still awaiting detailed biopsy results. What is the general course of treatment following surgery?

Hello dear. After an extended cholecystectomy, chemotherapy(usually 6 cycles of gemcitabine drug) is required in a case of carcinoma of gall bladder. Sometimes radiation can also be added depending upon the biopsy results.

Hi Dr. Sundriyal,

Is the chemotherapy more palliative? I have read some research articles stating that chemotherapy has not proven to be effective in gall bladder cancer patients. Is this true? Sorry, I am just really worried so, I am trying to gather all the information I can.

Hi Dr.Sundriyal,

My father has been having hiccups after the surgery for ~5 days. Is this normal? They have tried some medications but does not seem to be working. It has subsided a little bit.

Brief Answer:
No. It helps increasing the survival.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Although gall bladder cancer is a bad type of disease as the chances of relapse are higher even after chemotherapy and surgery, still survival gets improved after addition of chemotherapy and hence it is indicated.
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. Chemo therapy intent will be curative

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Post surgery, the intention of treatment by chemo will be curative as it helps some patients to get rid of the disease(cure). So, its not palliative. Hiccups can be a problem after surgery but effective drugs like baclofen or chlorpromazine are available for it.
Thanks and regards
