Question: I bruised the base of my left hand near the thumb 2 weeks ago in a bicycle accident. I had an X Ray done which showed NO broken bones. I continue to experience mild discomfort at the base of my left hand and cannot put pressure on the area without some sharper pain. There is no swelling any longer. I have full range of motion.
Advice please

Brief Answer:
soft tissue injury, restrict pressure/movement, anti inflammatory, warm

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Trauma can cause injury to bones, tendons, muscles, ligaments and other soft tissue in an area.

Since the x ray showed that there was no damage to the bones then it would mean that the persisting pain is due to soft tissue injury (muscles, tendons etc)

Normally restriction of use is normally advised for 2 to 6 weeks depending on the extent of the pain and the injury.
You would need to reduce your use and pressure on this area for at least 2 weeks, more if the pain is persistent after this.

Use an anti inflammatory pain killer to reduce any lingering inflammation in the area eg naproxen, cataflam, ibuprofen
Apply a warm compress to the area at least twice daily.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
