Brief Answer: Yes it appears to be a common cold/sinusitis Detailed Answer: Hi there. I understand your concerns & empathise with your situation. However, it does appear normal or rather not out of the ordinary to have a report such as this. The ESR can be raised in many situations & is non-specific & perhaps points to some form of chronic sinusitis that may have flared up in your case manifesting with such symptoms. Please do hydrate yourself well with lots of oral fluids; tantum verde mouth gargles (or any other antiseptic/analgesic combination gargle) three times a day before & after meals & keep your nutrition well attended to. In addition, symptomatic treatment with 500mg acetaminophen (paracetamol/panadol) taken 3 times daily after meals for the next 24-48 hrs should see you free of these symptoms. Wish you continued good health & please do practice safe sex in future & Godspeed! Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD

Brief Answer: No blood test required now; hydration key. Detailed Answer: Hi there. While these are not absolutes, yes they could point us in the right direction. Unless your total count is high, a neutrophilic predominance means little. Also, you need not check your blood again if the fever abates in the next 48-72 hrs as I have suggested. Like the real estate folk have 'location', 'location' & location as their mantra, the dictom in medicine is 'Hydration', 'hydration' & 'hydration...sips of fluids & good nutrition even if the latter is in the form of enriched milkshakes etc will put you back on track in no time. Don't let the guilt & self doubt play on your mind..my clinical hunch is the fever is unrelated to the oral sex. Good Luck & wish you a quick recovery. Cheers!~ Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD
