What Does This Blood Report Indicate?
Question: So, I need to understand how all these lab tests are (or are not) related. In December, my IGG test came back at 455 with below levels of IGG1 and IGG2. In the past couple of weeks the CBC has shown up with a very slight anemia,
Platelets below normal (19 & 24) and MCV edging up to 105. I need to stop thinking about this

Brief Answer:
maybe b12 or folate deficiency
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Slight anemia with high MCV suggest b12 or folate deficiency. I see that you are already in appropriate supplements. So it should get corrected. I am not sure about the platelet counts. Do you mean 190000 and 240000/ul? Then it appears fine.
Your igG is on the lower side. We need to follow them up. If they remain stable or increase, then nothing to worry.
Hope this helps to alleviate your concerns. I will be available for further follow up queries, if any.

The follow-up question is this. What do the standard ranges mean on the lab reports? how do you determine the relevance/significance of something outside standard ranges. Is there a rule of thumb? 10% lower or higher? repetition of the results in subsequent tests? trending? Of course I will rely on my MD's analysis. I need to find a way to relax for the usual weeks between the results being emailed and my apppointment
Brief Answer:
actually it is a combination of all the factors
Detailed Answer:
I fact you have beautifully summarized all the things to be considered while interpreting a lab result. All of them are important in varying order of significance. There is no simple rule. That's why the most important thing is to correlate the results with clinical condition of the patient.
