Question: Hello. My eisonophilia count has been varying between 25 and 35% since I visited XXXXXXX Numerous blood tests reveal normal results but we still do not know why White Blood Cell (12,400) and Eisonophilis counts (3000-4500) are high and what medicine you will prescribe. Brief Answer:
Ivermectin will reduce eosinophils if due to parasitic infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Elevated eosinophil count commonly occurs due to allergy and parasitic infection.
The accompanying high white blood cell count is probably due to high eosinophils.
Less common causes include malignancies, however, malignancies are accompanied by other constitutional symptoms.
Before prescribing any medication for eosinophilia, it is important to know the cause of eosinophilia.
Allergies like asthma, hay fever, urticaria, allergy against various allergens in environment, food etc lead to elevated eosinophil count.
Parasitic infections commonly affecting gastrointestinal tract can lead to high eosinophil count.
Your doctor has prescribed you ivermectin which is anti-helminth drug or drug against intestinal parasites.
Please take entire course of drug and get blood count done after a month or so.

I took Albenza 200 mg 6 pills prior to Ivermectin 3 mg as I mentioned to you. If the blood tests due by September 19, 2016 indicates "no effects", would you recommend any other remedy for reducing eosinophil counts.

My all other blood tests for determining any blood disorder, autoimmune disorder and malignancy have come negative. Even catscan results showed no abnormilities or infections.

Do you recommend any other blood tests for allergies of any medication to reduce eosinophil counts?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
If eosinophil remain high, possibility of allergy needs to be considered.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
I suggest you to wait for the results for the blood reports in September.
In case the eosinophils are still high, possibility of allergy has to be kept.
However, it is best to wait for the results.

Thanks and take care

Dr. Puri, as you suggested, we waited for the blood test results for WBC counts and eosinophil count and they came normal after the treatment with Albenza and Ivermectin. I am now on prednisone treatment for itching. Other than itching everything is okay. My question: is itching a normal side effect when one takes parasitic infection control medicines.

Brief Answer:
Drugs against parasites are unlikely to cause itching.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The treatment with albenza and ivermectin has treated the parasitic infection and also the high eosinophil count.
The cause of itching needs to be found out.
Itching can occur in number of conditions like dry skin, irritation, skin allergy etc.
However, itching is not a known side effect of drugs for parasitic infection.

Thanks and take care
