Posted on Mon, 24 Oct 2016
Question: I AM A 71 YEAR OLD WOMEN WITHOUT HEALTH ISSUES EXCEPT FOR EXTREME ANXIETY.
I HAD A YEARLY PHYSICAL YESTERDAY AND I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY BLOODWORK.
WBC 11.5
RBC 4.55
HEMOGLOBIN 14.5
HEMATOCRIT 46%
MCV 101
MCHC 31.5
PLATELET 284
NEUTROPHIL 8.7
LYMPHOCYTE ABSOLUTE 2
MIDCELL ABSOLUTE .08
NEUTROPHIL % 75.5
LYMPHOCYTE % 17.3
MIDCELL % 7.2
DO YOU THINK ANY OF THIS INDICATES CANCER? I HAVE HAD A LOW GRADE SINUS INFECTION
FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS. COULD THIS CAUSE THE VARIATIONS IN THE BLOOD WORK?

Brief Answer:
Value of WBC totally justified to be altered because of the sinus infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

Most of the lab results you have written here are within normal limits and you don't have to worry about them.

The only one who is altered a little bit it is the white series (Wbc and Neutrophiles), and that happens entirely because of infections, so I agree with you when you suspect that it may be because of the sinusitis infection. They will move back into normal in 1-2 weeks.

I am sure none of those values indicate a cancer.
I also can see that you are not anemic and that it is good, and the platelets withing normal limits tell me that you don't have coagulation problems.

Hope this is helpful.

So I do not need to worry about any indication of cancer?
Just stress and sinuses. I can sure live with that.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry for the cancers that this lab rules out

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Yes, no need to worry..at least for the cancers that this lab rules out.
But of course there are many other cancers that this test doesn't rule out. You still do not need to worry about cancers if you don't have specific symptoms that your doctor will surely diagnose in time if you follow up with them regularly.

Sinuses will eventually get better, and you will need to manage the stress, because it can cause many problems in the future, so don't worry..

Regards
Take care.
