Brief Answer:
Your platelets are below normal and requires evaluation
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. The platelet count is 98 which is below normal and there is clumping of platelets in the film. This requires a clinical evaluation and is significant if you are having a fever.
Rest of the values are borderline levels and therefore not a problem.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Hi, thanks for reply.
What could it mean 1. The platelet count is 98 which is below normal and there is clumping of platelets in the film. This requires a clinical evaluation and is significant if you are having a fever.
I feel tired as normal but not got fever.
Hi,

Should I be worried about the result? What does it mean? What does clumping mean?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Low platelet and clumping is seen in common viral infections
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. Your platelet count is less than normal and the platelets are seen to stick and form clumps. This finding is seen in viral infections. Tiredness can be related to viral infection like the flu and similar conditions and that is the reason I asked if you are having any fever or other clinical symptoms.
There is no need to worry but consultation with a doctor is suggested and if required then please repeat platelet count.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Hello,
Thanks for reply.
In past I tested it was normla but MCV was 100, since I have supplemented. But could it be Folic acid issue?

Brief Answer:
Deficiency of vitamin B12 and folic acid can also cause low platelets
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. Usually folic acid and vitamin B12 are checked if MCV is above 95 to 100. Deficiency of vitamin B12 and folic acid can also cause low platelets and you might be right. Since there was clumping therefore I thought of viral infection first.
There is no need to worry but consultation with a doctor is suggested and if required then please repeat platelet count.
Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
Folic acid testing is not important
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. If you are taking folic acid supplement then doing the test is not required urgently. Folic acid is important if MCV is above 100. If your MCV is 94 then it is not essential.
Your symptoms of grey hair, rigid nails can be from excessive stress and anxiety, nutritional deficiencies or any work related reason if you work in an industry with exposure to harmful chemicals.
Hope your query is answered.

Hi,
I've also had a ferw grey hairs over last year and rigid nails also I drink heavily twice a week for years. But have a good diet.
I did have a b12 active blood test before and it was within range, but I was supplementing at the time. I haven't had a folic acid blood test, should I? They are $60 each and how reliable are both tests?
Thanks
