Question: Hi there, I am a 32 years old female, I got my blood test results yesterday and was diagnosed with subclinical Hyperthyroidism. I have a doctor appointment in 2 weeks. I am stressed and I don't understand what does this mean. What is subclinical Hyperthyroidism? is it dangerous?is it curable? do I need to stay away from certain food? any supplements? I haven't received the test numbers yet. I also have low levels of vitamin d. I am concerned.

more info: I recently moved from a hot weather country (40+ celsius) to a cold country (-15-20 celsius), I am not sure if this is relevant.

Brief Answer:
About subclinical hyperthyroidism;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone through your concern carefully.

Subclinical hyperthyroidism is a mild form of hyperthyroidism caused by nodular goiter or Graves disease (in most of the cases) and treatment is recommended only if symptoms or signs of hyperthyroidism (fast heart rate, weight loss, sweating etc.) are present.

Your treating physician will try to find the cause (with thyroid ultrasound, scintiscan or thyroid antibodies) of subclinical hyperthyroidism and than decide if there's any need to treat the cause or not.

You do not need any special diet and it is not related to vit D deficiency.

Some of thyroid pathologies causing hyperthyroidism are activated in stressful situations, the weather change does not effect it.

Hope the information will help.
Do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
