What Does This Chest X-ray Showing Mildly Unfolded Aorta Indicate?
normal chest Xray finding
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.
Basically, the Xray is becoming an obsolete test and most of its terms are not being used any more. With ageing the position of the aorta changes which can be seen in Xray as well. Sometimes the increase in diameter which is normal with ageing can be seen as a shadow in the left part of the heart in the Xray. This is called unfolding of the Aorta.
If you were 30 or 40 years old it might have meant a disease of the aorta called aorta dissection, but the unfolding would have been important, not just mild.
But as I said, Xray is not used any more in these condition since 1980s
So, basically in your case, it means that the findings are within normal range.
Hope this helps. Please feel free using MHC again
