What Does This Following Lab Report Indicate?
Question: Hello Doctor,
I have been selected as a PBSC donor for unrelated person from an NGO, I went through medical check up doctor says I am fit for donation, however I would like to know what would be the risk of taking Neupogen 750 injection for 5 days and donation and long term complication associated for healthy donor, I have attached a research report, please review that and advise if should really do this on humanitarian ground. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Risk is negligible
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query. I understand your concerns.
The risk to the donor of allogenic stem cells is almost none. The paper you have attached clearly says " The observed incidence rate of hematologic malignancies did not exceed the expected incidence in an age- and sex-adjusted general population". So maliganancies are not the concern here. The other events, like cardiovascular problems could have been by coincidence also. It is very difficult to prove as the numbers of adverse events compared to total number of procedures are very low.
Overall, we always advise donation whenever feasible, as risks are almost negligible.
Hope this helps.
Regards
