What Does This Lab Report Regarding Thyroid Cancer Indicate?
I am 54 and had a 5cm nodule minimally invasive follicular carcinoma. 4cm limited to thyroid or any tumor with minimal extrathyroid extensions ( What does that mean? I have stage four thyroid cancer. I just had surgery and is now scheduled for RAIU and a week later a whole body scan.
Did the cancer go beyond my gland?
Do majority of patients get a secondary cancer due to XXXXXXX treatment?
I had a lymphatic massage to help with the flow of lymph and toxins while I still a few days before surgery.
Could this cause the cancer to spread to other areas?
What does minimal extrathyroid extensions mean?
What does minimal capsular invasion present mean?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the answers. I appreciate your knowledge and expertise.
some cells have breached the capsule
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query. I do understand your concerns.
Thyroid gland is normally covered with a barrier called capsule. If the tumor in gland has breached the barrier, then it is known as capsular invasion or extrathyroidal extension. Now if it is only at one point with only a few cells breaching the capsule, it is minimal capsular invasion. If it is at multiple points, or large number of cells coming out or the tumor has got fixed to neighboring structures, then it is extensive capsular invasion or extrathyroidal extension. Prognosis of minimal invasion is still good.
I don't think the massage has got anything to do with capsular invasion.
Radioiodine therapy should take care of any cells remaining after surgery. Second cancers due to radioiodine are not common at all.
Hope this helps.

in all likelihood, yes
Detailed Answer:
More often than not, this treatment is successful. However, no treatment is 100% effective and this is no exception.
In a small percentage of patients, the disease may recur despite radioiodine therapy. These patients may require resurgery or repeat radioiodine therapy or external beam radiotherapy.
yes it will
Detailed Answer:
But only thyroid cancer cells as other cells will not take it up.
