What Does This Lipid Profile Indicate?

total cholestrol in 264
tryglycerides 160
HDL 40
Direct LDL cholestrol 195
How good is this and what to do to reduce it to normal levels.
Not so good.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM forum.
Your lipid profile is on the unfavorable side.
Total cholesterol :264(normal <200).
TGL:160(normal<140)
LDL:195(normal <170)
HDL:40(normal >35)
So total cholesterol,TGL,and LDL has to be reduced and HDL to be increased a bit.
But,nothing to worry much right now,and no need to start anti lipidemic drugs now.Initially we can try life style modification. Then recheck the profile after 6 to 8 weeks. If it begins to shift towards normal,we just need to continue a good life style.Otherwise,we will need medical treatment to prevent adverse cardiac/cerbro vascular events.
The following modifications are advised.
1.Stop smoking and alcoholism if any-the most important step.
2.Reduce non veg/oily/fast food items as far as possible.
3.Include enough fruits and green leafy veges in the diet.
4.Do regular moderate exercise,like 40-45 minutes of walking/swimming etc.
Hope this will answer your query.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Thanks for the information.
So you have associated obesity also. This may further aggravate deranged lipid profile. So more attention is needed towards the said life style modifications-these will help in weight reduction as well as controlling cholesterol.
As I already told, try to keep away from fast food and non veg.
Also, it will be fine if you could keep a look at your blood sugar and blood pressure every 3 to 4 months, as diabetes and hypertension is frequently associated with obesity, especially if you have such a family history.
Hope you will find this answer useful.
