What Does This Liver Function Test Report Indicate?
Question: Hi Doctor.
I was experiencing a yellow coloured urine and some gas in my stomach for some weeks now. I went for a LFT test and got my report today. My SGOT and SGPT results are elevated.
SGOT is 140.5 and SGPT is 111.5.
Rest all is in Range.
I am attaching the report also for your reference. Can you tell me is wrong and am I in some danger. Should I go for any other tests or general medicine can cure me.

I would like to know are the current levels of SGOT and SGPT which I have are very high ? Is this not controllable? Is their a cure for reducing these numbers.

Any other symptoms I should look for?
I had a history of fatty liver few years back after which I never got it tested. I do consume alcohol but it's occasional but I do take hard drinks. Can that be cause of raised Enzyme levels?

Hello your liver enzyme levels are not very high.They can be controlled.Treatment will depend on the cause. If all the tests are negative then alcohol and fatty liver could be possible causes. In that case the advise would be to stop alcohol and repeat enzyme levels after a month.
These levels indicate that there is some inflammation/injury to the liver ( not major damage). There are no other symptoms to monitor.

The chances of developing hepatitis b or c can't be predicted for an individual. The community prevalence is less than 5 percent. There is treatment available for both.other common causes are alcohol, Wilson's disease and autoimmune hepatitis.treatment will be decided after the lab results come.Age ratio is not a cause for worry. You should he an ultrasound . last alt ratio is normal.

I would advise to get ANA and ceruloplasmin blood tests.
In case these are negative then we can attribute the raised enzymes to XXXXXXX ( nonalcoholic steatohepatitis or fatty liver). in that case the treatment will be regular exercise ( aerobic like brisk walk, jogging at least 30 to 40 min 4 to 5 times a week) weight loss if over weight, change in diet and vitamin e. We would repeat liver enzymes after 3 months. Inbcase the have reduced we would continue the same line of treatment. In case the have increased significantly you might need further investigations
