Question: I just had a pelvic ultrasound, transabdominal and vaginal. I saw some of the images and am really freaked out by the big bright blue spot. Ive been having pain for a long time in that area. Does this look like a malignancy???

Brief Answer:
The blue dot is blood vessel ( vein).

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

Just relax. I just don't understand why you are thinking of the most serious condition first instead of thinking of most common conditions.

The films you have uploaded are of transvaginal ultrasound. Some of the films have colour doppler used. Colour is used to delineate blood vessel. The large blue dot seen is ileac vein. By doing so nearby organ (ovary) can be identified better. Blood supply to the organ also can be assessed. All the colour areas in the films are either vein or artery. I am also upset thinking why the sonologist did not explain this to you and put you under unnecessary stress.

From the films, I can see that one ovary is perfectly normal. The other ovary shows a small cyst. I cannot see the accurate size as the numbers are not clear. This could just be the egg if you are now in mid cycle. This small cyst will not cause this long standing pain.

The pain could be due to infection or due to some non gynaec cause.

I hope this is helpful.

If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

Thank you very much for your response. Ive been having issues for over a year since my son was born. Ive had abdominal and head ct's, RUQ abd u/s, tons of blood work. The only dx so far has been IBS. Im frustrated and scared. One of my main symptoms is feeling like my bladder does not empty all the way and i feel very bloated. Can the bladder be seen on these films? Could the pain possibly be related to my bladder?

Brief Answer:
Please consult Urologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

This is a transvaginal ultrasound report. So it is not possible to see the bladder in it.

One of the reasons for your symptoms could be urinary tract infection.Have you got your urine culture sensitivity done to assess for infection? The pain could be related to your bladder too. Please consult urologist for thorough evaluation. It is important to know the reason for incomplete emptying.

I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns, do write to me.

Best wishes,
Dr Rama
