What Does This Renal, Urinary Bladder And Prostate Sonogram Indicate?
Question: Have blood in my urine seen through microscope but no infection. Routine urinalysis show RBC high 18.8 / ul reference range 0-8.3. Renal, Urinary Bladder and prostate sonogram subsequently done shows normal kidney and urinary baldder. Enlarge prostate 3.7 x 4.8 x 4.4 cm. with a volume of 42 grams. No evident mass or concretion. Urine cythology shows no malignant cell seen. RBC morphology 6% dysmorphic RBCs seen. Follow up urinalysis shows RBC high 9.2 /ul, reference range 0-8.3. What is the likely cause.

1. Your ultrasound report shows that the kidneys and urinary bladder is normal.
2. The prostate gland shows enlargement and measures 42 cc (volume up to 25 cc is usually considered normal)
3. In few patients, an enlarged prostate can cause mild injury to the bladder neck and prostatic urethra and this might appear as microscopic hematuria which is asymptomatic in nature.
4. Since the dysmorphic RBC is 6 percent therefore it is more likely to be due to an urological cause possibly related to your prostatomegaly.
5. Your other reports reveal a mild increase in cholesterol levels and that might be controlled with diet and medicines. Rest of the parameters are within normal limits. Most likely, your RBC in urinalysis should come back to normal in 3 months time
