What Does This Semen Analysis Report Indicate?
Question: Hi Doc, I am a 34 male married for 3 years now and trying to start a family for the past 18 months. I am not able to since then. have tried all procedures and planning possible. few days back I did my semen analysis and the results are as below.
method of collection - Manipulation. Specimen produced at 11.20 am. Specimen examined at 11.50 am. Physical examination - Appearance - milky white. Transparency - Translucent. Self Liquification - Incomplete after 1/2 hour. Viscocity - Increased +. Volume 3ml.
Chemical examination - Fructose - Positive, PH - 7.5
Microscopic Examination - Rapid Linear progressive - 10%, Sluggish Linear progressive - 20 %, total forward progressive - 30 % non progressive - 5% non motile - % total number of abnormal spermatozoa - 58%. Active sperms in the ejaculate (at the end of 1/2 hour) - 25.2 millions.
I have been smoking for the past 7 odd years and have 3/4 cigarettes a day.
Would really appreciate if you can tell me the diagnosis of the above results.

Thanks for additional information.
Your sperm count is normal.
But the sperm motility is low.
This is probably due to Infection of semen which has also lead to increased liquefaction time and increased viscosity.
Therefore please get semen culture and sensitivity test done. You can take antibiotics accordingly after reports.
Very important issue is to stop smoking immediately. This will have benefit for your sperms.
Meanwhile get your wife's investigation done for infertility.
