Question: I got my thyroid test results back and they are confusing. MyTSH is .48 uIU/mL; t4 is .72 ng/dL; and t3 is 1.9 pg/mL. I am a 45 year old female and I take 90mg of armour already. What does this mean?

Brief Answer:
please provide a bit more details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

The normal range of TSH is 0.4-4.0 uUi/ml. This means that your actual level of TSH is within the lower limit of the normal range.

On the other hand, your thyroid hormone levels T4 and T3 are too low (according to the reference range of T4 4.6-12 ug/dl and for T3 80-180 ng/dl ).

However, let me know your lab reference range or upload your test report here, so I can understand better your actual results.)

Low TSH and Low thyroid hormones is difficult to explain.

I have some additional questions for you.
Do you have any symptoms like:

-Fatigue.
-Increased sensitivity to cold.
-Constipation.
-Dry skin.
-Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
-hair loss or
-Muscle weakness.

Your answers are important for me to understand your clinical situation and to interpret exactly your thyroid test results.

Awaiting your response....
Wish you all the best.

The lab says the range for the t4 is .89-1.76, for the TSH it is .55 - 4.78, and for the t3 it says 2.3 -4.2. It also notes all are low but doesn't say anything further. I have a great deal of fatigue, I am cold (feeling I can never get warm as well as actual temperature. My hair has been thinning and I have patchy/rashy dry skin, as well as difficulty healing. I have gained weight and cannot lose it to save my life. I'm hoping to get some answers because I can't get into the doctor for quite a while. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Under active Pituitary Gland (Hypopituitarism) is very probable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear
I apologize for the late reply.

You have the symptoms and the laboratory findings of hypothyroidism.

According to your lab normal ranges for the thyroid tests,i can say that you have Low TSH and Low Thyroid hormones(T3 and T4).
This means that the pituitary gland is more likely to be the cause for the hypothyroidism.

Of course, this would drastically affect the treatment since the pituitary gland also regulates the body's other glands (adrenals, ovaries, and testicles) as well as helping the normal kidney function.

Pituitary gland failure means that the other glands may also be failing and other treatment than just thyroid may be necessary.

My advice for you is to schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible because you may need some other blood test to check your levels of the hormones produced by the pituitary gland.

At the other side, your doctor may also perform imaging tests, such as a CT scan or MRI scan on your brain. These tests can help them figure out if a tumor on your pituitary gland is affecting its function.

The most common cause for the pituitary gland failure is a tumor of the pituitary and this might also require surgery to remove and this may restore your hormone production to normal.

In general, the goal of treatment is to bring all your hormone levels back to normal.

This may involve taking medications to replace the hormones your pituitary gland is not producing properly.

In this case, your hormone levels will need to be checked regularly. This allows your doctor to adjust the doses of medications you are taking to make sure you’re getting the amount you need.

Hope i have clarified your doubts.
