What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?
What is worrisome is that my 24hr urine oxalate is 1700 umol/d from a range of 40-340. My urologist is not sure. My 24hr result from a year ago was 1015 umol/d from a range of 40-340 but the specialist (different one) did not follow up). I understand that this level is multiple times higher than normal and is very worrying. Please help.
Your urinary Oxalate levels are abnormally high.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that levels of Oxalate in your urine have been very high (Hyperoxaluria)
I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem
1) Do you have any intestinal disease like Chrons disease or that causes excessive absorption of Oxalates from the gut ?
2) Does any body in your family has similar issue ?
The cause of high level of Oxalate is mainly due to increased absorption of Oxalate from intestines .The only solution to resolve this problem s to restrict oXalate intake .Following measures will help to reduce Oxalate sin intestine available for absorption .
1) Drink more water minimum 4-5 liters per day with 0n3 glass every hour.
2) Take high Calcium diet so that Oxalate is bound to calcium and less amount is available for absorption .
3) Avoid Spinach,Rhubarb ,chocolates, nuts that contain high Oxalates
4) Take low sodium diet like canned foods, salted snacks etc .
5) avoid animal proteins
6) Take glass of milk or Yogurt
7) Resrict Vit C intake to less than 500 mg per day by reducing intake of lime and juices .
These measures will help to reduce Oxalate levels in your urine and prevent recurrence of stone formation .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

In regards to the dietary I will try to follow but my current diet is already low on most items you ad pointed to. As my Oxalate levels are 5/6 times the top normal range, could it still be dietary or would it be due to a more serious condition?
In regards to family history, my father and uncle both have had kidney stones but not as much as me and also their oxalate levels have not been as high.
In regards to the intestine diseases, not that I know of.

Increase Calcium intake .
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for feedback and posting detail urine report .
It shows calcium concentration to be low .
Whenever Oxalate is bound to Calcium it becomes insoluble and not absorbed from the intestines .Increasing the calcium levels will help to lower down absorption of Oxalate and there by reduce it in urine .Hence increase calcium levels in food or take calcium supplements.
As regards high level of Oxalates ,It may be due to Primary Oxaluria which is genetically determined and can not be cured with medicines Family history of stones suggests possibility of this angle .
Thanks and Regards.
Dr.Patil.
So there is no medicine to help cure , what is the treatment and outcome ? In addition to the diet you have proposed and the increased calcium intake what should I do?
Dietary measures very important to achieve your goal to lower down Oxalate.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .
You can increase calcium intake by taking milk, yogurt .sea food eggs and green leafy vegetables along with Calcium supplements from pharmacy .
If your Hyperoxaluria is primary and is genetically determined it is very difficult to bring it to normal levels .Your primary aim should be to keep at lowest possible levels .
Thanks and Regards.
