He has a blockage in the ureter, so urine is running back up to the collection part of kidney, it's not a stone , they thought it was a blood clot, but it hasn't moved there's still blood and protein in his urine and his red blood cells are very high. We are going for a mag 3. If it's not a clot, do you think it might be a tumour?
Brief Answer:
Cannot tell if its tumour with this information
Detailed Answer:
Hi....before going into details I would like to clarify why a MAG3 is done. It helps the doctors to estimate the kidney function and also delineate the structural anomalies in the kidneys or the tract through which the urine flows while getting excreted from kidney. The test can find out what percentage each kidney contributes to the total kidney function. It also shows how the body fluids circulate through the kidneys, narrowing of the arteries that take blood to the kidneys, blockage or interruption of the ureters.
Sometimes a drug called Frusemide is given to hasten the urine formation. But this scan will tell you or the doctor only whether an obstruction is there or not and if so where. But this is preferred as it is noninvasive.
Whether it's a blood clot or a tumor will be known only after a biopsy of the lesion and histopathological examination under microscope after certain stains are used.
I am sorry to say that it is too premature for me to tell if its a tumor.
