What Does This Urine Test Strip Result Indicate?
Question: I have IC and have been uncomfortable for a week. Took a urine test strip. It indicates positive for leukocytes but negative for nitrites. If I go to an urgent care, they will only use the strip like I did. I have an appt with my dr on Tues. for a check up. Don't know whether to take the Bactrim DS for infection or wait for Tues.

My Impression-of your report-
Based on the scanty facts in your query,
-You seem to have UTI mostly with Leucocytes without any bacteria mostly as indicated by the Urine test strip,
-seems mostly to be caused by Interstitial Cystitis.
This suggests the low UTI with Low bacterial count or no bacterial infection from E.coli like bacteria.
Suggestion-
In such a case Urine Culture is indicated to specify the bacteria , if not relieved with 14 days of following treatment-
Remedy-
As your case of IC is of only 1 week duration-(Confirm if the duration of your IC is correct as your query submits it to be for 1 week. )
Plenty of fluids,
Alkaline Mixture-Citralka liquid 2 TSF three times day x 1 week
Tab CIPLOX-500 mgm x 2 times per day to avoid secondary infection over the
adenovirus infection
This would give you relief.
If not go for the Urine Culture to locate the bacterial cause of your IC.
