What Does This Widal Test Report Indicate?
Question: My daughters' doc has written for a Widal Tube Method and the results are as follows :
Salmonella Typhi "O" - Positive (1:80 Dilution), Salmonella Typhi "H" - Positive (1:80 Dilution),
Salmonella Typhi "AH" - Negative (1:20 Dilution), Salmonella Typhi "BH" - Negative (1:20 Dilution).
What is this mean ? does my daughter have any complication ? I would be able to meet her doc only tomorrow morning.. just want to know the implications. thanks.

Brief Answer:
This is not suggestive of typhoid- don't worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi.... Greetings from XXXXXXX
Your pediatrician had probably ordered the widal test suspecting Typhoid fever. This report is not suggestive of typhoid fever. Please do not worry. In Tamilnadu usually we take 1:160 dilution only as a positive report.
Doing widal test by tube method is very good. But please remember that widal test has to be done for a fever of minimum 7 days duration. If this test is performed before 7th day of fever then this is not reliable.
