What Does This Widal Test Report Indicate?
Question: I was diagnosed by Typhoid (continues fever around 100-101 F, widal test positive, WBC above normal). It has been 3 weeks it started and trying to describe a medical history below in consultation with Dr.
I have taken following medicines.
* Ceftum 500 (7*2)
* Becelac PB
* Calpol 650
I had developed diarrhea and initial 2 days antibiotic didn't respond much, so PB was started and it helped.
After this course, fever was still coming but going down with Paracetamol, then following reports were done
* CBC - normal
* Blood Culture - sterile
* Stool R/E - Mucus++ - Stomach Infection persists
Then took Omni-O (3*2) with Becelac PB
After this fever is still coming 100.5 F in day and goes away in night with perspiration
Did few more tesrs
* Chest X-ray - Normal
* Ultrasound - Normal
After a week of normal reports also, still getting fever till 100.5 after noon, and goes away in night with perspiration.
Lot of body, mainly joint, pain and weakness is developed.
Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Repeat Widal test, better to rule out malaria
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
I would like to know your age and sex.
I would have asked you to repeat the Widal test.
Do you have another symptom other than fever.?
I would like you to get and PS for MP, or malaria rapid diagnostic test.
Based on the report one can decide on the next management plan.
You can discuss this with your consultant.
Hope this helps
Take care

Thanks Dr. for your response.
My age:28 sex:male
other than fever, only body pain, in specific significant joints pain.
Got prescribed reports done just now. Report copy attached.
* Malaria rapid diagnostic (card) test - Negative
* Widal - Positive. S. Typhi O antigen 1:80, H antigen 1:160 dilution (3 weeks back, same report read 1:80 dilution for both antigen)
Family doctor suggested to start anti-malaria (lariago-DS) after reading into specific fever symptoms (comes in afternoon, goes in night)
But now that malaria test says negative, not sure whether to start this course.
Please advise. Thanks!
