Question: I have done a random ultrasound and CT scan for abdomen where CT imaging features are suggestive of two hemangiomas in the right lobe of the liver. Is it normal?
LIVER: Shows two well defined lobulated lesions in the inferior segments of right lobe of liver. They measure 6.2 x 5 cm and 5.5 x 4.2 cm in size. They show peripheral interrupted enhancement in arterial phase. It shows centripetal filling in the venous phase and progressive filling in the delayed phase. Rest of the liver appears normal. Porta hepatis and portal vein are normal. Intrahepatic portal venous radicals are normal. No evidence of intrahepatic biliary radicular dilatation. Hepatic veins and intrahepatic portion of inferior venacava are normal.
Brief Answer:
Hemangiomas are benign lesions.

Hello XXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM
You have two large liver hemangiomas(also called as cavernous hemangioma) in the liver.
Contrast CT scan findings are typical of cavernous hemangioma.During arterial phase there is peripheral interrupted enhancement with centripetal filling in the venous phase and progressive filling in the delayed phase.
Liver hemangioma are benign lesions and made up of tangle of blood vessels.
You don't worry about the lesions. There is no evidence that liver hemangioma can lead to liver cancer.
Mostly liver hemangioma are discovered during a test or procedure for some other condition.
In most cases liver hemangioma doesn't cause any signs or symptoms.
However due to complications it can cause pain in the upper right abdomen, bloated abdomen, lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting etc.
If it is causing symptoms then surgical removal can be done.
