What Else Should We Be Considering For Diagnostic Tests ?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Jul 2019
Question: What else should we be considering for diagnostic tests ? CT, PFTs, or echo ? I told my son if any breathing issues or chest discomfort evolves to pain, he should go to ED, he agrees. But he is getting worried that we are not dealing with the real problem, and feeling anxious.

Hi.
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

Here is my opinion on your query.

A difficulty in breathing and chest pain can have a respiratory or a cardiac cause.

Most respiratory problems can be detected by a chest X ray (PA View),Blood work like ABG(Arterial blood gas analysis ) and CBS,sputum examination (if any),PFT(Pulmonary function tests) and High resolution CT SCAN of chest.

Most cardiac problems can be diagnosed by an electrocardiogram,2 D echo and blood tests like cardiac enzymes and lipid profile.
At the most, CT angiography is needed in some.

In our clinical practice,we rule out any organic cause before labelling it as due to Anxiety.

Hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any doubts about it,please let me know.
Stay healthy.
Regards.
