Question: Dr. Spaho, What exactly is a craniotomy?
Is it something that would decrease
Headaches that's what someone told me
what doesn't make sense is why a surgeon would operate in an attempt to get rid of headaches there was no issue with the shunt being used for hydrocephalus??

Brief Answer:
A craniotomy is the opening surgically the skull.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for asking directly.

Cranitomy is the opening of the skin of the head and the skull by neurosurgical means.

It is used to assess and treat surgically intracranial ( brain) pathologies/diseases.

it is not used to treat headaches, but to treat diseases of brain that cause headaches among other symptoms.

Hydrocephalus is treated by successful shunting and a small Cranitomy/ burr hole in the skull is needed.

Hope this helps. If you have further questions feel free to ask.
