Question: Thank you for the offer to help. I have Benign Positional Vertigo and wonder what excerises I might do at home to help with the lightheadness and dizzyness without seeing a doctor each time I have these symtoms.

Brief Answer:
Yes,you can do these exercises at home.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question. Yes you can do the vestibular retraining exercises at home.
Kindly follow the instructions.
1) You should aim to spend about an hour a day doing the excercises.
Its better to split the time up into short sessions of 5 to 10 min each.
2) sit upright on bed.
From this position lie down onto one side suddenly.Keep head looking up at 45 degree angle. Remain in this position for 30 sec
Then return to sitting position and remain for 30 sec.
Then repeat the same on the other side and come back to sitting position .
Repeat this 5 times at stretch and do this 3 to 4 times a day.
3) Eye exercises:
-look up and down 20 times. Start slowly at first and then speed up.
- look side to side without moving head 20 times. Start slowly then speed up.
4)Head excercises:
-With your eyes open, bend your head forwards, then backwards,20 times. Start slowly and speed up.
- Turn your head from side to side 20 times.Start slowly and speed up.
- As dizziness improves do these with eyes closed.
5) Sitting exercises.
- Shrug your shoulders 20 times.
- From the sitting position , bend down and pick up objects from the floor , and sit back. Repeat this 20 times.
6) Moving about excercises:
- Walk across the floor with your eyes open and then eyes closed ,20 times each.
-Walk up and down the steps with your eyes open and then closed , 20 times each.
7) Throw a small rubber ball from one hand to another hand above head level and track the ball with eye movement as it passes from one hand to another hand.
Hope I have answered your question. Wish you a speedy recovery.
If you have any further questions I am happy to help you.
