Question: yes...and "thank you so much.."... My sister, age 50, just been dx w/vascular dementia...had recently had cardiac surgery to close the "hole' in her heart which she likely has had for years.. the question now is what vitamins./fish oil...??curcumin... and anything else can I recommend...to see if its possible to slow this process down.??? thank you

I'm a nurse practitioner...and realize the likely prognosis..but I'm trying to research as much as I can...and question...??can she increase the D in her fish oil..or is that dangerous for her.. ??b12 injections...and ? curcumin on everything she eats..... thanks again..XXXX

Brief Answer:
All clear for the mentioned supplements

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking Miss corine smith!
Considering you are nurse practitioner , it would be easy to communicate. Of course increasing fish consumption and taking B12 supplements. Also folates and other vitamins like B6 are all very good to use and are recommended in dietary preferences. Any thing which decreases the homocysteine levels is good and all the supplements i mentioned do that. The curcumin is analgesic and herbal supplement for Gi care. that has nothing to do with Stroke or dementia.
Nutshell, any factor which increases the risk of stroke is a poison and vice versa. Rest i believe management of antiplatelets and hemorrhagic agents and all medical therapy is something beyond the scope of this discussion.
I hope it helps.Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
May the odds be ever in your favour.

appreciate your advice...have a question to clarify...are you indicating that getting the fish oil with higher dose of DHA docosahexaenoic acide, is an anti platelet and should best be left to her doctors...??? if not some of the research indicates that this may decrease the development of the amalyoid placques..???

and would it be better to use plant based vitamins..???

Thanks again..

Brief Answer:
Excess of everything is bad,

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
I meant They are good but in the dosages recommended and advised. As excess of every thing is bad. And yes vitamins are fine whether plant origin or any other origin. And yes amyloid plaques reduction is one of the many good points of these supplements we talked about.
Take care.
