What Happens If One Overdoses On Postinor-2 After Unprotected Sex During Pregnancy?
Question: What happens if one overdose postinor2 after unprotected sex and didnt know she was pregnant already. Is it likely for ectopic pregnancy .
Brief Answer:
Tablet itself may not lead to ectopic pregnancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern.
Taking overdose of postinor2 can serve the purpose of emergency contraception if taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
But the side effects of contraceptive pill like abdominal cramps, nausea etc may aggevate.
If the woman was already pregnant before using the pill, the pill may not itself lead to ectopic pregnancy and it cannot prevent the progression of pregnancy also.
Hope l have answered your question. I will be available to answer followup questions.
Take care.

I had unprotected sex prior to the one that i took overdose of postinor 2 . With the intial unprotected sex , my bf said he was 100% sure he didnt cum in me so i didnt take any pill. About 5 days later of taking the medicine i had menstral cramps later i had blood spot and dark brown fluid spots only for a short time not even much enough to fill a panty liner i guess. Ofcos headaches too.after 7 days now am having slight pain in my right back waist which sometimes goes to my right leg on and off. My period is due onthe 3rd april but no menstral pain at all now . Am worried i may be have ectopic pregnancy. Is the waist n leg pain side effect of the overdose ? Was the blood spoting a sign of pregnacy being establish? Or maybe am stressing too much . I want to fo pregnancy test after the 3rd for a best result
Brief Answer:
Better to wait till your expected date of periods
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
thanks for the query.
As you have taken emergency pill after second episode of unprotected intercourse, the possibility of pregnancy is less with that.
But the possibility of pregnancy because of first unprotected intercourse could not be ruled out as sometimes preejaculate fluid can contain spermatozoa.
After taking the emergency pill sometimes it may take around one week to ten days for the onset of withdrawal bleeding.
So, the backache, spotting etc you are having may also be indicating premenstrual phase, just by symptoms and we cannot come to a conclusion regarding pregnancy as these symptoms can be seen in pre menstrual phase and also in early pregnancy.
So, better to wait till your expected date of periods and if you miss the periods, please go for urine pregnancy test once to find out the possibility of pregnancy. Depending on the result you can plan further management with your doctor's advice.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
The possibility of ectopic is less
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern.
The general incidence of ectopic pregnancy is only 1 to 5 in 100 pregnancies.
So, the possibility of having ectopic pregnancy is less in general, unless you are having risk factors like pelvic inflammatory disease, previous ectopic pregnancy etc.
If pain occurs due to ectopic, it may not decrease without intervention usually.
So, please wait till your expected date of periods and if you miss the date, go for urine pregnancy test once.
If the pain becomes severe, giddiness etc occur, better to consult your doctor immediately.
I will be available to answer followup questions.

Brief Answer:
Better to wait for one more week
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern.
Usually urine pregnancy test kit can give accurate result after one week of expected date of periods.
In very early pregnancy, because of low hcg levels pregnancy test kit may not give accurate result either in intrauterine or ectopic pregnancy.
Emergency contraceptive pill may not be responsible for your delayed periods.
Usually the possibility of ovulation five days before expected date of periods is less, so the possibility of pregnancy is also less with intercourse on that day.
After taking the emergency pill it may take around one week to ten days for the onset of withdrawal bleeding.
So, better to wait for one more week.
If you do not get periods even after one week, repeat the urine pregnancy test or go for ultrasound.
Ultrasound helps in ruling out the possibility of intrauterine or ectopic pregnancy.
Take care.
