What Is Hydralazine Prescribed For?

Question: I had my prescription change and want to find out more. Are you familiar with hydralazine?
Brief Answer:
It is an anti hypertensive drug
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
Hydralazine is smooth muscle relaxant used for treatment of hypertension. It acts as a vasodilator. By the action of vasodilatation , it decreases peripheral resistance in the arterioles thereby lowering blood pressure.
But i need to know, why you want to use it. It is not a commonly used anti hypertensive medication.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. Revert with the asked details for a better help.
Stay Healthy.

Hi Dr.,
Thank you for your answer. I am taking DIOVAN HCT and TOPROL XL 25mg and was taking TEKTURNA. The tekturna was added about 1 year ago or a little longer.
I spoke to the family dr. and told him that I found out that the Tekturna and Diovan had contraindications. Is this correct?
I am now not walking very well at all, even with my walker. And, there are times (maybe once a week), when I feel like I will fall. I wasn't getting dizzy but felt that I was falling back. My legs cannot move well.
When I told him that I found out the Tekturna was contraindicated with the Diovan HCT, he changed it to Hydralazine.
I had very bad pains in my head for about one hour yesterday, after taking the Hydralazine for the 1st time. I am scared to take it again.
What is this new medicine used for, exactly?
My blood pressure spikes high at times and that is why the Tekturna was added about 1 1/2 years ago. But, I began seeing light streaks a couple times a week and muscle pain in my arm and wondering if that was causing a problem. I know Tekturna states that demise is one of the side effects.
I really do not know what to do at this point.
Is there a mediation to lower the pressure a little without causing the side effects of chest pain, bleeding, or God forbid, death, or any other really bad side effects?
What is the Hydralazine used for, please? Please help me here because the doctor doesn't seem to know what to prescribe here and if you give me a suggestion, I will let him know that I researched (not giving this information), and found that "this drug" might be better.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
I don't agree with your second doctors opinion.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
These both drugs are not to be taken together in case you have high Pottasium levels and Kidney Dysfunction.
Otherwise you can take both the drugs together.
As far as Hydralazine is concerned we don't use it in advancing age or in people suffering from any heart disease as it can precipitate angina. The headache you are getting is most probably because of Hydralazine only.
I would recommend you to get your Kidney function tests done.
Based on your kidney functions and your blood pressure and pulse rate, I will advise you a correct combination that you can take.
