What Is A Wandering Pacemaker?
Question: My son had heart testing yesterday, during the test the dr told me his heart rate was all over the place that she called it a wandering pacer, she said it could be something but it could be nothing. My sister hassupra ventrical tachycardia, inappropriate sinus tachycardia and wpw. What does it mean by a wandering pacer? what would cause this? why would nothing show up before know.

Regarding your concern about wandering pacemaker I would explain that it is a repeated shifting of cardiac impulse generator from the sinus node (dominant pacemaker) to other places of the atria and again returning to sinus node. It is almost always only an ECG finding without any clinical significance or any needs to treat. Vagal (nerve) tone modulation is thought to be responsible for this finding. It is frequently a relapsing phenomenon and not surprising why it is not detected at one moment. Wandering pacemaker is more frequently seen in children and almost never requires treatment. I would like to have a look to the ECG if it is possible for you to upload.
