Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to XXXXXXX
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
Carbon dioxide narcosis happens if blood carbone-dioxide increases to certain level and then it can cause sleepiness, confusion,
tremor, convulsions coma and even death. High carbone dioxide levels are typically seen in patients with
COPD, but they usually develop tolerance to CO2 elevation so those symptoms and consequaces wont occur until late stage of carbon dioxide narcosis.
Any other cause of
hypoventilation and breathing disorder may lead to
CO2 narcosis.
In chromic cases it is treated by improving lung function and treating primary cause. So the patient should be treated by bronchodilatators, respiratoy stimulants, bicarbonates or
oxygen therapy. In acute cases, mechanic ventilatory support is necessary depending on severity of narcosis.
Wish you good health. Feel free to ask. Regards
