Question: I am a 46 year old female. I have been experiencing irregular periods since August of this year. In August my period arrived on CD 57 the next month it arrived on CD 26 (which is my normal) but only lasted a day. In October it arived on CD 38 bleed for seven days (but was less than normal bleeding). Skipped November-Period arrived Dec 5 (CD 40). I strated out extremely slow for about 4 days only needed panty liner picked up a bit thereafter. At about day 10 of my period looked like it was going away but following day wa followed by what typically I experience with periods (cramping and heavy flow) now seems to have lightened byt am on day 12 of this. Whta is causing this prolonged bleeding. What can I do to stop period?

Brief Answer:
It could be due to hormonal imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting us about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
As per your description these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance. ( perimenopausal stage)
But as you are having irregular period it could be an anovulatory cycle.
Get your pelvic ultrasound to see the endometrial thickness and other causes of your symptoms, like fibroid and polyp.
Get your thyroid profile and hemoglobin test also.
For excessive bleeding you can use medication.
you have to take high protein diet and lots of vegetables and fruits, you can take iron and calcium supplements.
It is normal at your age to bleed like this due to hormonal changes because of your age,no need to worry about it.

I had an exam with my obgyn. I have a thickening of my uterine lining. I have been prescribed progesterone. Will the progesterone stop the irregular bleeding. Is it also typical to experience an increase in discharge with this? How long does the progesterone typically take to stop irregular bleeding?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for trusting us again about your health care.
I have gone through your details, they have given you progesterone for withdrawal bleeding because endometrial thickness is more( estrogen primed epithelium).
Yes,progesterone increases vaginal discharge.
It depends on the thickness of endometrium.
Can you please share your ultrasound report?
Hope to hear from you soon.
