Brief Answer: Ear infection Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX Cholesteatoma is a keratinizing growth in the ear, and if it occurs on the superior surface of the tympanic menbrane( ear drum) then its called attic cholesteatoma. It can either be congenital or acquired. In your case, its possibly the latter. The mainstay of treatment of surgical removal of the cholesteatoma. Its a desctructive growth and can cause damage to the ear drum, so its important to have it removed.

Brief Answer: side effects Detailed Answer: The surgery itself wont take long. Side effects include possible recurrance, wound infection, bleeding, nerve damage, hearing loss(not often). Immediate complications after surgery are the infection, bleeding, and nerve damage. It depends on age, size of the cholesteatoma, surgical skill.
