I saw the picture.
It looks like a Boil.
It is healing.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Linezolid 600mg twice daily along with Anti inflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints.
Please consult a Doctor and get appropriate prescription..
Do not apply any pain killer ointment over it.
Nothing to worry.
It will come down.

Boil sounds awful. Is there a way to prevent this

You have taken appropriate treatment like Antibiotic and hot compress.You should add anti inflammatory tablet too.
