Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXX

As the baby is 6 months it is right time to start complimentary feeds or weaning diet . Also do continue to keep the baby on breast feeding.

I personally do not recommend use of cerelac. There are better home made recipes which have stood the test of time. The aim of the complimentary diet is to
1. Supply the extra demands of growing baby which cannot be solely meet by breast milk alone
2. To prepare the baby to adjust to food sequentially so that by end of 1 year of age he should be able to eat the normal diet eaten at home. Off course which is less spicy and salty.
3. To experiment with the taste buds and get is aqquanted to various food.

I would suggest you the following

1. Start with Rice water or Rice kanji; Feed using a small bowl in the morning. Preferably use watti and spoon. Using bottle feeding may be easy but weaning them off the habit will be difficult
2. Dhal water: You can give it at noon. Start with a small bowl and slowly increase the quantity
3. Smashed banana with milk and sugar added
4. Wheat porridge: also known as dhalia or lapsi. Initially let it be of liquid consistency. Introduce it later on.
5. Home made Cerelac: cerelac can be made at home with higher nutritive value and is best suited for kids.
6. Vegetable soup
7. Apple puree

The principle of feeding is

1. Introduce one thing at a time , initially give him small quantity . See whether it suites him
2. Keep introducing new diet regularly: It helps sensitize the taste bud of babies. It also gives them different menu
3. Do not force eat
4. Continue breast feeding
5. Introduce ragi based feeds

Wishing you a very happy parenthood.

Take care
